1911年10月，武昌起义爆发。董必武同志毅然奔赴武昌投入战斗，成为坚定的反帝反封建的民主主义者，走上为中国人民解放事业不懈奋斗的职业革命家道路。他追随民主革命先行者孙中山先生，先后加入同盟会和中华革命党，怀着“做得一分是一分”的朴素情感，参加辛亥革命和反对北洋军阀袁世凯的斗争。他两次被捕入狱，出狱后仍继续坚持斗争，表现出顽强的战斗精神。尽管辛亥革命没有改变旧中国半殖民地半封建的社会性质和中国人民的悲惨境遇，没有完成实现民族独立、人民解放的历史任务，但董必武同志始终没有停下探索的步伐。
